Alltrails app showed I did 6. Lots of wildflowers, fungi, and Eastern North American newts. We also saw a deer. We continued up to the river before turning back, spotting a crack pipe on the bridge. Beautiful place! Well labeled trail.
Amazing waterfall at the end! Not a bad walk at all. Overall a really good trail. Would be nice to have more info on the trail provided at the trailhead. Also, was not really well marked in some areas but was still easy to follow. Waterfall at the end was definitely worth the effort. Trail was a bit longer than 5. Best part was our very polite and enthusiastic four legged guide that stayed with us for the entire hike. He brought lots of smiles to our faces but did cut down on any wildlife sitings.
Love this trail! When you descend those you enter another world and the real hike begins. I caught this one after a rain which made it even more spectacular! Summer time the falls are few and far between, you may see more moisture from your body due to the high humidity.
Overall, a beautiful hike along the cliff lines of the southwestern ridges of DBNF! The first part of this trail is a little humdrum, but it gets so much better! A little muddy in spots due to recent rain, but that just made the falls even better. We didn't see anyone on a Tuesday until we were on our way back, and then just 4 people total.
Spotted 7 eastern newts, a tiny snake, and 2 turtles. Gorgeous hike! Absolutely breathtaking. I think we trekked about 5. A little buggy, most especially when you're deep in the hardwoods, further from the falls. Also, the poison ivy is creeping in along the trail in many places.
We did not find any ticks, though. I'd recommend hiking boots or hiking shoes from Sheltowee to Princess Falls then to switch to water shoes like Merrells or something as there are multiple I counted four water crossings. Because my partner did not have water shoes, I had to throw him on my back to cross several as he refused to get his shoes wet. If you are traveling with a partner who does not like wet feet or you yourself prefer dry toes , you've been warned.
Lots of opportunities to take a quick dunk along the way, too. Take lots of water, the humidity this time of year is oppressive. But again, this hike was perfect--not too short, not too long, just enough hills and hollers for two tweens supplemented with plenty of snacks , and fun water crossings plus a blown down or two, which always makes things interesting.
To take in three waterfalls in one hike in Daniel Boone National Forest after a day of heavy rain is about as pure Kentucky as it gets. Happy Trails y'all. Moderate nice hike. Falls are flowing from the recent rain. Trails damp but not too muddy. Really awesome trail. A little longer than what AllTrails says it is but we enjoyed it. Was a good trail with a beautiful waterfall at the end.
I would rate the trail more of a moderate trail than an easy trail. Well marked out and back trail and well loved by our family. Take a backpack lunch and eat at the falls, explore the creek, and appreciate the massive rock formations. Spring is best or after a hard rain. Easy to navigate and well maintained trail. The waterfall is unique to see as you can walk underneath the ledge it flows from. Great trail. Plenty of water features, boulders, rock shelters.
Be prepared for water crossings. The turn off for the trail head is well marked. There are five parking spaces at the trailhead.
The trail itself is well marked with white diamonds.. This trail should be rated "moderate," due to the elevation changes, but definitely worth it for one of the best falls I've seen! Fairly easy trail. Small, but beautiful waterfall at the end. Other Roadside Stops Find a Community in Kentucky.
